Despite the increasing adoption of low-cost sensors (LCS) and growing public interest in air quality monitoring, efforts remain unstructured and uncoordinated among key stakeholders in Jakarta. Currently, there are no formal partnerships between government agencies, community organizations, and the private sector, leading to fragmented monitoring efforts and underutilized data in policymaking.
To address this gap, the Resilience Development Initiative (RDI) is compiling a comprehensive report that maps the landscape of participatory air quality monitoring in Jakarta. The study will examine national and international LCS implementation guidelines, highlight best practices, and propose strategies to strengthen community-driven initiatives.
This research aims to:
- Identify key stakeholders and define their roles in participatory air quality monitoring.
- Develop a partnership model to facilitate effective multi-sectoral engagement.
- Analyze best practices in LCS implementation from global examples.
- Assess existing challenges and explore opportunities for improvement.
- Provide policy recommendations on legal frameworks, funding models, and collaboration strategies.
By establishing structured partnerships and adopting standardized protocols, this initiative seeks to enhance Jakarta’s air quality management and ensure community-collected data contributes meaningfully to evidence-based policymaking.
