Project Background
Habitat for Humanity Indonesia (the Principal) is planning to implement a project on improving the economic opportunities of people with low income by providing SKT courses in the construction industry vocation for selected communities in Banten Province between October 2022 and December 2025. In order to ensure a relevant, effective, efficient, coherent, sustainable, and impactful project, the Principal will commission a feasibility study. This study will combine the desk-literature review and findings on the field. This study is split into 3 deliverables: Initial Report, Preliminary Report and Final Report.
This Final Report will present all information related to this study. It consists of an introduction, methodology, regional context, finding and discussion, and conclusion and
recommendation. This report will address the practicality of the proposed project.
Project Findings and Results
- The project design to provide certification for skilled workers in the construction industry could help them to have a more competitive advantage. It will help them to negotiate salaries with construction companies and build their portfolio.
- The Internship mechanism which was proposed at the beginning of the project turned out to be inapplicable if these workers had to connect directly to the construction company. Internship is a common practice for the builders hired by the Foreman.
- Current findings suggest that builders without certification due to high cost and far training locations are not accurate. The problem is mainly due to dissonance on both builders and construction companies to the Indonesia Law number 2/2017 and Law number 11/2021.
- During the FGD it was found that the Banten community accepted that women could work in construction work only at two types of jobs which support the work indirectly, such as role as a cleaner and as a drafter.
