Background:
The project Asian Development Bank Advancing Inclusive and Resilience Urban Development Targeted at the Urban Poor Cirebon City” is an initiative project that focuses on identifying and supporting local government participation in urban planning and governance. Cirebon City is a regional target for developing an inclusive and resilient city, especially in improving the livelihood of the poor within the Cirebon City area. In formulating appropriate policies for inclusive and livable city development, it is necessary to identify the capacity as well as the distribution of vulnerable communities through the utilization of spatial data.
Technical support in urban planning can be done through the use of geospatial-based planning support tools (ur-scape). ur-scape is an open-source spatial planning tool designed to enable evidence-based planning across scales and also develop innovative forms of data collection, analysis, and visualization needed for complex challenges.”
Aims and Objectives:
Ur-scape training workshops focused on increasing knowledge and handing over ur-scape data files to Cirebon. The training workshops complemented the ur-scape spatial data analysis used to support the Urban Resilience Assessment of Cirebon City as part of TA support to Indonesia’s Livable Settlements Investment Project (LSIP). The Livable Settlements Investment Project (LSIP) is a technical assistance project funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to support the Government of Indonesia’s efforts to strengthen infrastructure and support
economic development and basic services.
Methodology:
The ur-scape studio was structured in three integrated formats providing both online and in- person training. The workshop is structured in three integrated stages:
- Basic Knowledge of QGIS and ur-scape- Online training
- Self-guided online platform
- ur-scape Charrette.
These three stages provided incremental learning of the ur-scape tool and supported the ur- scape methodology based on the Design-Research framework.
The training series was all held in Cirebon City, Indonesia
- Learn to work with the ur-scape platform to improve the evidence base for planning across scales (region, city, town, and neighborhood) and sites (global and local).
- Through this context, teach the basics of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other commonly used Remote Sensing data types.
- Provide step-by-step instructions on how to install ur-scape, import data in the platform, analyze, and visualize it.
- And lastly, through a series of exercises, the participants had the opportunity to explore the functionality of ur-scape and transfer a real-world planning issue into the spatial workflow.
