In April 2021, the University of Auckland, in collaboration with Indonesian and Filipino partners, hosted a stakeholder workshop called “Platform for the Inclusion of Non-Normative Gender and Sexualities (NNGS) in CCA Policy and Action.” This event gathered regional stakeholders, including NGOs and UN agencies, continuing discussions from a previous NNGS Regional Workshop in February. The workshop used the ‘Johari Window’ concept to explore mutual knowledge and gaps between the transgender community and stakeholders. It led to discussions on collaboration opportunities, especially in disaster response, social assistance, reporting cases, and arts and culture. The transgender community expressed their needs and aspirations, including raising awareness of vulnerabilities and creating grassroots advocacy platforms. This workshop serves as the start of an ongoing series, with a forthcoming Capacity-Building event to delve deeper into Non-Normative Genders and Sexualities topics.
