According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are over 400 million persons with disabilities in the Asia Pacific Region, with over 50% of worldwide disasters occurring in the region. While millions of people are adversely affected by natural disasters, inclusive communities are becoming increasingly vulnerable. It is commonly understood that government stakeholders alone cannot achieve sustainable risk reduction. This indicates the importance of non-governmental organizations addressing vulnerabilities faced by persons with disabilities. As stipulated in Goal 7 under Incheon’s strategic goals, the commitment to ensuring inclusiveness in disaster risk reduction and management needs to be implemented nationally and locally.

It is therefore important to also look at the aspects of the Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CDRM) concept to ensure inclusiveness in bolstering community resilience. In partnership with Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) and the Center for Disaster Preparedness (CDP), today’s webinar will highlight the aspect of CBDRM and the inclusive communities’ resilience in Southeast Asia.

The webinar will be conducted in English with audiences not exclusive to those from countries in Southeast Asia and is a part of the RDI SEARCH Webinar series. Thus, the event will also be open for actors worldwide interested in the SEA region.
