In July 2021, RDI participated in the APEC Workshop on Community-Based Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Management. During the opening session, RDI shared insights into Indonesia’s current community-based WtE practices. The workshop aimed to train startups, policymakers, and clean energy business players from APEC countries in developing sustainable clean energy startup businesses, specifically in waste-to-energy. The event featured speakers from various countries and drew over 300 participants from APEC nations, including government representatives, startups, consultants, and local governments. Key takeaways included the importance of community education on waste separation, the need for alignment between national and local government policies on waste management and waste-to-electricity conversion, and discussions on social inclusivity in community-based waste management.
