Gauging the Seroja Cyclone: The Impact of the Seroja Cyclone to Buildings and Infrastructures in East Nusa Tenggara

On April 5, 2021, a devastating tropical cyclone named Seroja struck East Nusa Tenggara. In response, RDI partnered with Charles Darwin University, Widya Mandira Catholic University, Kupang State Polytechnic, Nusa Cendana University, and the Institute of Resource Governance and Social Change to organize a webinar titled "The Impact of Cyclone Seroja on Buildings and Infrastructure in East Nusa Tenggara." This webinar was conducted online via Zoom meeting and YouTube livestream on May 17, 2021, with the primary objective of providing a platform to discuss the significant challenges related to cyclone preparedness and mitigation in Indonesia.

The webinar also aimed to disseminate information regarding building codes that can serve as effective tools for mitigating cyclone disasters. Aria Mariany S.T., M.T., served as the moderator, while Dr. Jonatan A. Lassa provided coordination for the event. The five speakers, namely Ir. Rani Hendrikus, M.S., Dantje Sina, Ph.D, Kusa Bill None Nope, M.T., Abdul Muhari, Ph.D., and Jusuf Wilson Meynerd Rafael, M.T., covered various topics during the webinar.

In conclusion, the speakers emphasized the importance of further studies on cyclones to enhance community resilience. This can be achieved through the collective contribution and collaboration of various stakeholders. Additionally, mitigation measures are crucial to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community in their living environments. Such efforts also necessitate the joint contributions and cooperation of diverse parties.
