Insights Unveiled: Collaborative Sessions Shape Future Social Protection in East Sumba Timur

Throughout  December 20-21, 2023, a consortium of stakeholders spearheaded by Charles Darwin University and the RDI team, comprising Dr. Jonatan Lassa, Dr. Ayu Khrisna, Farijzal Arrafisena, Rahmah Aulia, and Debby Paramitasari, joined forces with partners from the KONEKSI consortium. This collaborative effort brought together experts from The PRAKARSA, Wira Wacana Christian University, Habitat for Humanity Indonesia, and the Institute of Resource Governance and Social Change (IRGSC) for a series of Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KII) sessions.

Engaging stakeholders from government institutions, NGOs, and the private sector, these sessions proved to be a crucible of insights. Discussions ranged from the social fabric and potential disasters to climate change impacts and the formal implementation of social protection initiatives by government bodies. Moreover, the KII sessions provided invaluable insights into the informal social protection mechanisms ingrained within the East Sumba community.

Perspectives gleaned from diverse sectors including BAZNAS, Pegadaian, moneylenders, credit unions, cooperatives, and various community groups enriched the dialogue, offering multifaceted viewpoints.

The outcomes of these collaborative endeavors represent a significant stride forward in understanding the complex landscape of social protection in East Sumba Timur. These insights serve as pivotal inputs for forthcoming research endeavors, paving the way for the development of adaptive and responsive social protection strategies tailored to the unique context of the region.
